Actim PROM is an immunological rapid test to detect premature rupture of fetal membranes. It detects IGFBP-1, a major protein of amniotic fluid, in extracted vaginal samples. The concentration of IGFBP-1 in aminotic fluid is 100-1000 times higher than in maternal serum, and it is not detected in seminal fluid or urine making it an extremely specific marker for amniotic fluid.

Sample collection

The sample is vaginal fluid collected from the posterior fornix with a dacron swab provided in the test package. Alternatively, if no liquid is visible, the sample may also be collected from the endocervix. After collection, the swab should be immediately transferred to the Specimen Extraction Solution and extracted by shaking the swab in the tube for 10 seconds. It is recommened to test the sample immediately, but if necessary the sample can also be stored for up to 4 hours.

Storage of the test

The kit can be stored at +2 - 8 °C. Please note that the components need to reach room temperature before testing. The tests can be stored for 2 months also at room temperature, provided that the expiry date is not exceeded.
